Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Please note: All participants will be required to sign a liability waiver and a media release form, allowing photos and videos taken during the class to be used for promotional purposes.
Reservation priority is given to students who purchase the full 5-class package. These students are automatically reserved for all five sessions.
Q1: Can I join without a dance partner?
A: Yes. Individual participants will be placed on a waiting list and paired on a first-paid basis or can share an advanced dancer with another student for an additional cost.
Q2: What if I miss one class? Can I make it up?
A: One makeup class may be possible if you notify the instructor at least 48 hours in advance. Please note that, in general, makeup classes are not offered due to the high cost of running this program (including space rental and professional instruction) and the intentionally small group size.
Q3: What level of tango experience do I need?
A: Intermediate tango experience or prior choreography experience in partner dance is recommended.
Q4: Is this class suitable for beginners?
A: This choreography series is tailored for intermediate-level dancers. Beginners should consider our beginner-friendly classes. Strictly Tango NYC offers beginner fundamentals, Tango BioKinetics technique and training, and intermediate classes for those who wish to excel in Argentine Tango.
Q4a: I don’t have experience in Tango, but I do in other partner dances. Can I join this class?
A: Yes. If you have strong coordination, timing, and choreography experience from other partner dances (such as ballroom or salsa), you may adapt well. Please contact us directly if you’d like to confirm whether this class is a good fit for your background.
Q5: Will we perform publicly after the course?
A: Successful participants will have the option—but not the obligation—to perform at a special event or regular milonga after completing the choreography series.
Q6: Are payments refundable?
A: Payments are non-refundable due to limited class capacity and preparation requirements.
Q7: Can we record the choreography during class?
A: Participants may record short videos for personal practice at the instructor’s discretion.
Q8: What should I wear to class?
A: Comfortable clothing and appropriate dance shoes that allow pivoting and turning are recommended.
Q9: Can I join the class series once it has already started?
A: Yes. Each class features a different, independent sequence, so you can still benefit from attending even if you missed previous sessions. However, space is limited, and priority is given to full-series participants.
Q10: How physically demanding is the choreography?
A: Moderate physical intensity requiring good health and stamina.
Q11: Will there be opportunities for private lessons?
A: Private lessons can be arranged separately by appointment.
Q12: How early should I arrive before class begins?
A: Arriving at least 10 minutes early is recommended.
Q13: Is there parking near the studio?
A: Yes, street parking and paid garages are nearby. Public transit is also convenient.
Q14: Can I take this class individually at my own pace in private sessions?
A: Yes. Private classes are available if you prefer to work one-on-one and progress through the choreography at your own speed. This is a great option for those seeking personalized attention or with scheduling constraints.
Q15: I want to improve faster—should I consider additional group or private classes?
A: Absolutely. Many students enhance their results by combining this choreography class with other offerings at Strictly Tango NYC, such as Tango BioKinetics training, fundamentals, and intermediate group classes. Private sessions are also highly effective for personalized feedback and faster progres
